Visit the island of Ré by bike: the assurance of a total change of scenery

In the morning, after renting a bike , start by going to the market in La Flotte: you will discover a cobbled square surrounded by magnificent market halls. An almost medieval atmosphere reigns there.

Then, go to Saint Martin to have lunch on the terrace on the magnificent port and its island. You can stroll through the cobbled streets to discover the pretty shops and small art galleries. Before leaving, don't forget to climb to the top of the bell tower to enjoy an unbeatable view of Saint Martin! 

In the afternoon, cycle to La Couarde or Le Bois-Plage to enjoy the sea and the beach . You can even try surfing, paddleboarding, and other water sports!

On the second day, after a hearty breakfast, head to the northern part of the island: in the morning, visit Loix to discover the magnificent salt marshes . Don't hesitate to stop at the salt marsh eco-museum on the banks of the Fier d'Ars to learn about the history of salt production. Loix is ​​also known for its crafts (honey, donkey milk soap, etc.).

For lunch, what could be better than a sunny terrace overlooking the pretty little port of Ars-en-Ré, or, if you love seafood, an oyster shack . Before leaving the village, make a detour to the magnificent bell tower with its black-painted spire. Climb up to the bell chamber; the breathtaking view of the Fier d'Ars is guaranteed!

To end the day, head to Saint Clément at the Phare des Baleines. From the top of the lighthouse, the view of the island and the ocean is impressive.

Then, before heading home, a deep dive into nature is a must! Take a stroll along the Lilleau des Niges nature reserve . You're likely to encounter the birds that inhabit the marshes, which vary with the seasons and migrations. You can rent binoculars there for a better view.
